Strip

The Strip, Fencing Strip, playing area or Piste all refer to where a fencing bout occurs.  The strip is 14 meters long and 1.5 meters wide. Falling to the side results in a 1-metre retreat. Falling off at the end results in a point for your opponent.

Five lines are drawn very clearly on the piste at right angles to its length, as follows:

One center line which is drawn as a broken line across the whole width of the piste.

Two on guard lines at 2m on each side of the center line. These are drawn across the whole width of the piste.

Two lines at the rear limits of the piste, which are drawn across the whole width of the piste, at a distance of 7m from the centerline.

The last 2m of the piste before the rear limit lines are clearly distinguished by a different color of the piste, to make it easy for the fencers to be aware of their position on the piste.

Not all clubs/facilities can accommodate this amount of space per strip so yours could be narrower and shorter.
